The Return of Old Guy Superhero – Blood Donor

I put on my Old Guy Superhero T-shirt,

then drove on over to the blood donation center.

Once again, it was my turn to do my civic duty,

donating some of my special blood,

one always ready to save lives,

not knowing on how many it saved,

whether it helped one, two, or three others.

I only wore my special T-shirt to show others

I was there to do my part in helping out.

Maybe I didn’t wear Depends,

or wear a red cape like my hero,

but felt I could be his twin.

Yes, you may not be an old guy like me,

but you too can be a part of the team,

and one of the heroes of the day.

Be not afraid, and give, support the team.

Donor of the Day

He told her that she had the honors of being

the best donor of the day at the local

blood drive they both attended,

but being the beginning of the event,

and that she was the very first donor,

it was still a nice a compliment,

an event she was fully prepared for,

being healthy, with a full blood supply,

the perfect start for the day.

Another One Bites the Dust

He walked out of the history booth,

and then out the front door

after a brief appearance at the blood bank,

deferred from donating blood.

‘Another one bites the dust’

someone yelled out, while

others preferred the saying of

‘They are dropping like flies.’

Yet another disappointing moment,

the second of the day,

and now, anxiously waiting

for the next one to succeed.

The Walk of Shame

She was ready to leave the room,

head hanging low, sad and sorry,

saying she was ready for

the walk of shame

after just being deferred,

but there was nothing to be ashamed of,

it just wasn’t her day.

Hold your head up high, you tried,

and it didn’t work out this time.

Let others take that walk,

those who made no attempt.

Your day will come,

be a giraffe,

and stand tall.
