MURPHY ROLLINS

I’m pretty sure I'm in love with you.
This feeling is frightening and extravagant and chaotic and serene
You occupy my thoughts as if you resided within the walls of my skull
The image of your face flits into my dreams every night

I’m pretty sure I'm in love with you.
There’s nothing about you that I don't absolutely adore
I erupt into a swarm of butterflies at the very idea of your touch
I am terrified of your absence

I’m pretty sure I'm in love with you.
I am unable to look anywhere but you when your figure enters a room
Every experience I have is one I wish to share with you
If I could spend every waking moment in your presence I would never again have sorrow

I’m pretty sure I'm in love with you.
Doubt flutters in my mind on occasion
Is it truly love, or disguised obsession?
But there’s nothing I wouldn’t do for you
Is selflessness able to exist with delusional infatuation

I’m pretty sure I’m in love with you.
Certainty stays the longer the feeling lingers in my cells
I feel you permeate every level of my existence
I am swept up by how amazing it is to know you

I’m pretty sure I’m in love with you.
Yes, that is what it must be
What will I do with this overwhelming feeling
I am resigned to passion unrequited

Murphy Rollins is a nonbinary writer living in California USA. They have multiple published short stories, and love to dabble in contemporary free verse poetry as well. When they don't have their nose in a book or a pen in their hand, they can be found crocheting, spending time with cinephile friends, or playing Stardew Valley. They've been writing since they were a child, and are currently working on a full length novel they hope to share with the world in the near future.
